Alumni Facilitator: Emily Taylor ‘08, Founder of NextStep Careers
Emily Taylor brings first-hand experience of the hiring process from the employer’s side and the preparation process from a business school career center perspective. This means she can tell you with certainty what it takes to shine. Over the past 15 years, Ms. Taylor has used her insider knowledge to help thousands of career seekers take their next step.
After graduating from UCLA Anderson with a focus in entrepreneurship, Emily joined an edtech startup as a product manager, enabling the company to scale while also improve product quality. She was promoted to Vice President of Talent, overseeing recruiting, training & development, human resources, and corporate culture.
Emily was then asked to return to UCLA Anderson to lead career education. She is extremely proud that the career center became the highest rated of the top 20 business schools. The career management course she developed and taught was the first mover in hybrid learning among MBA programs. Furthermore, students appreciated the infusion of relevancy and edutainment, and consequently, the course received top ratings. In addition, Emily founded the UCLA Anderson Startup ACT group, which quickly became one of the most enrolled career teams. It provided valuable coaching and accountability, plus inroads into Silicon Beach, Silicon Valley and Silicon Alley.
In 2018, Emily launched NextStep Careers to give job seekers the personalized career coaching and MBA/EMBA admissions consulting that they need to succeed in today's competitive job market. NextStep Careers works with clients in 63 cities around the globe and provides programming for top universities, foundations and corporations. In addition to running TACT, she has facilitated sold-out Anderson alumni resume workshops.
Emily was awarded a BA and Masters from Stanford University and an MBA from UCLA Anderson. She lives in Los Angeles with her husband Matt, also an Anderson alum, and their two future Bruins.
Testimonial
Emily is a master of her craft. I've known Emily since I was an MBA Candidate at UCLA Anderson, and she has been my career coach at many pivotal stages--both as a graduate student and as a professional navigating a marketing career attending TACT. During my most recent job search, TACT helped me revise both my resume and LinkedIn profile, increasing my hit rate with recruiters and interested companies. Emily's support and coaching helped me achieve great results: final rounds with four major companies, and two job offers, all during a pandemic. Emily is the first person I contact whenever I am contemplating a big career move. Anyone who works with her is in great hands!
